What Will Change at Lawton Dental Care after Lockdown?

Following our enforced close-down, we’re delighted to have been given the go-ahead for re-opening on June 8th!!

We’ll be contacting patients who’ve had dental problems over the coming week as our first priority.

If you require an appointment please email us on reception@lawtondentalcare.co.uk or call us on 01270 876026 or 07824992277, otherwise we’ll be contacting everyone who has been rescheduled to re-book their appointments as soon as possible following re-opening.

Since we were instructed by the Chief Dental Officer (CDO) to close the practice at the beginning of April, we’ve been following the guidance set out by the Government and the relevant dental governing bodies.

During this time, we’ve been limited to emergency dental care under a triage system where we can only provide advice, analgesics or antibiotic prescriptions.

If unable to control a dental emergency using these 3 methods, patients are referred to an Urgent Dental Clinic (UDC) for further triage and possibly an extraction (treatment options are currently limited as aerosol generating procedures “AGPs” are not being used due to increased risk of COVID-19 transmission.)

If you need any emergency help or advice, please contact us on: 07824992277.

Once we re-open, we’ll be implementing a phased return with patients who have dental emergencies taking priority.

After urgent cases have been dealt with, patients who are midway through their treatment will then be seen, followed by those requiring dental health checks and other routine care.

*Please note, we’ll also be adding additional appointment slots in the diary for patients who have missed dental plan appointments.

When you visit the practice next time, you’ll notice some alterations in the way we work (although we were already implementing some of these changes prior to lockdown).

Initially, to minimise the risks of COVID-19 transmission, treatments that create spray/aerosol will be limited to reduce risk further.

Staff will be wearing more personal protective equipment (PPE) than before. We understand that this can be somewhat off-putting but is essential in order to protect both you and our staff.

Appointments will be spaced out with only one patient waiting in any one area at a time. This may mean that patients need to come in one way and leave, another.

Before you arrive, we’ll telephone you to confirm your dental and medical histories. Only patients who are free of COVID-19 will be able to attend appointments. Patients showing signs of COVID-19 will have their treatment delayed until they are symptom-free and no longer potentially infectious.

Before your appointment, you’ll be asked to wait outside or in your car, if possible, and will then be called straight into the treatment room. We’ll also ask you to come alone, unless you require a carer for support or are under 16 years of age.

If you are vulnerable, we’ll be allocating special opening times for your dental care, to protect you further.

These are the main changes we’re making to keep everyone safe.

We’ll post here again as soon as we have further updates. Please also check our Facebook page for updates, and if you have any questions, please ask a member of the team.

Wishing you, your families and friends the very best!

Warmest wishes,

Aliya, Michael, Lauren and Aly
